Pembroke Magazine

If it ain't Pembroke, fix it.

Published at the University of North Carolina at Pembroke, Pembroke Magazine has been printed annually since its founding in 1969.

* In order to catch up on reading, Pembroke Magazine is currently closed for submissions. Thank you for your interest, and we look forward to reading your work. *

Pembroke Magazine is published annually and accepts original and previously unpublished poetry, fiction, creative nonfiction, art, and interviews -- with submissions accepted online only. Paper submissions will not be read or returned. The best way to get a sense of this unique magazine is to read through several issues. Subscription information can be found here, and issues are also available for purchase at Submittable.

Pembroke Magazine fields submissions exclusively via Submittable. Response time is usually within two to four months. If after four months you have not heard back regarding your submission, you may query the editor. Unsolicited email submissions are not accepted. Simultaneous submissions are encouraged, but do notify the editor immediately if your work is selected for publication elsewhere. All submissions must be properly formatted and accompanied by a brief cover letter (please no summaries telling us what your submission is about). To help us get through the stacks more swiftly, please wait until you receive a reply regarding your submission before you send another. Pembroke Magazine acquires First North American serial rights, and payment is two contributor’s copies.

For flash fiction and micro memoir, you may upload up to three pieces per submission. For standard-length creative nonfiction and fiction (up to 7,500 words), please upload only one essay or story per submission. Poets and visual artists may submit up to five pieces per submission.
